Fire Prevention solution from fiberglass fabric manufacturer

What is glass fiber?

There is such a material. When you touch it, it feels itchy, just like being pricked by needles. Curious about what it is?

What is glass fiber? 1

Product Overview

Glass fiber is a special kind of high-performance inorganic non-metallic material that comes in many different types. It is well known for its excellent insulating properties, strong heat resistance, great corrosion resistance, and impressive mechanical strength. Of course, like any material, it also has some limitations — it isn't very resistant to wear and can be somewhat brittle. Each individual glass fiber filament is extremely thin, measuring just a few to around twenty micrometers in diameter — that's about 1/20 to 1/5 the thickness of a human hair.

What is glass fiber? 2

Thanks to its unique properties, glass fiber is widely used in many important areas of our economy, such as a reinforcing component in composite materials, an insulating material in electrical applications, and a key element in thermal insulation solutions.

Key properties

  • High strength:

Glass fibers offer significant tensile strength, meaning they can withstand pulling forces.

  • Lightweight:

Compared to materials like steel, glass fiber is significantly lighter, making it ideal for applications where weight is a concern.

  • Heat resistance:

Glass fiber can withstand high temperatures, making it suitable for applications like insulation and aerospace components.

  • Corrosion resistance:

It's resistant to rust and most chemicals, making it durable in various environments.

  • Electrical insulation:

Glass fiber is a non-conductive material, making it safe for use around electrical components and wiring.
